Forward planning for a smooth move…
Forward planning for a smooth move…
These days many offices have become more than just a place to idle away 8 hours a day; they have become our homes from home. Sentimental attachments to the coffee machine and a certain chairs in the conference room-come-cafeteria are therefore unsurprising. With employees spending so much time at their desks it is obviously very likely that they have made their work space personal to them over the years with their own personal touches as well as their own specific place for everything. For this reason it always best to ask each staff member to clear their own work space prior to a move so that nothing is lost or muddled in transit.
This kind of forward planning is also much more time-efficient upon arrival at the new work place. Retrieving and reorganising documents and belongings can be time consuming and detrimental to productivity and, more importantly, your company’s professional reputation.
Following the storage of individual employees items it is time to turn your attention to the serious task of packing up the office hardware. Most employees are familiar with their own CPUs etc and so keeping together each works stations electronic belongings and knowing who they ‘belong’ to is a good plan. An easier enough way to do this to have employees label their own items and ensure they are all together before the removal company takes over.
While the removals company are doing their thing in one office, it is a good idea to be making sure you know exactly where you would like them to unload and position your belongings at your new site. Knowing exactly where you want all of those desks placing can make the move a lot quicker and easier. You should also know where you want each team/staff member to be relocated too so the uploading and setting up of the pre-labelled computer systems and personal work items is a simple task.
When considering the positioning of certain items in your new office you should always consider the placement of electricity centres (sockets) and phone ports (DSL and phone lines) as this often dictates how the set up of the room will go.
So, the key to all smooth moves is definitely forward planning.
